Upper Extremity Tendon Injuries: Advances in Clinical Management
This Intermediate to advanced level course on brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries is designed to enhance an in-depth understanding of the impact of nerve trauma on functioning of the entire upper extremity. This comprehensive course provides an analytical approach to the rehabilitation of upper extremity dysfunction due to devastating brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries.
Lecture includes video clips presentations of brachial plexus pre- and post-surgical status and management of various upper extremity nerve injuries, compressive/entrapment neuropathies, nerve regeneration, nerve conduction, EMG and EMG-Triggered electrical stimulation, pathomechanics, treatment, and surgery to further enhance the educational experience.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the therapist will:
- understand the anatomy of brachial plexus and the peripheral nerves
- understand biological and physiological consequences of nerve trauma and neuropathies
- be able to sequentially assess the nerve dysfunction at various regions of the upper extremity
- systematically design treatment and splinting for upper extremity nerve injuries
This course features an in-depth presentation of:
- peripheral nerve anatomy, function and injuries
- brachial plexus anatomy and management
- entrapment neuropathies
- nerve injuries at shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand
- tendon transfers
- clinical benefits of EMG Biofeedback and EMG-Triggered E-stim
- dynamic assist splinting in peripheral nerve rehabilitation
