Webinar Description:

Metacarpal and phalangeal fractures are among the most common hand injuries, usually caused by direct impact or twisting forces. The pattern of fracture displacement differs depending on the bone involved and the direction of the applied force. Although various fixation methods are available, there is no universal agreement on which technique yields the best outcomes. Healing is generally predictable due to the hand’s rich blood supply, yet complications such as stiffness, tendon adhesions, and deformity can limit recovery. Achieving good results depends on accurate reduction—whether by open reduction and internal fixation, lag screws, K-wires, or tendinotaxis—followed by early and well-timed rehabilitation. This webinar will explore key principles in the therapeutic management of metacarpal and phalangeal fractures, focusing on maintaining the balance between fracture stability and early controlled mobilization. The session will also discuss the role of well-designed orthoses in supporting tendon gliding, preserving joint motion, and maximizing functional outcomes.
